Project PANOPTES

Enabling a worldwide network of robotic telescopes to detect transiting exoplanets.

Project PANOPTES (Panoptic Astronomical Networked Observatories for a Public Transversal Evolutionary Survey) is an open-source citizen science project. Our goal is to democratize astronomy by providing the software and hardware designs necessary for anyone to build and operate their own automated observatory.

The Software Ecosystem

Explore the core components of our observatory control and data analysis stack.

  • POCS --- The Panoptes Observatory Control System is the main software driver for our robotic units. It handles everything from weather monitoring to target acquisition. View POCS Docs

  • panoptes-utils --- A collection of core utility functions used across the PANOPTES ecosystem, including coordinate transformations, image processing, and hardware communication. View Utils Docs

Get Involved

Whether you are an astronomer, a software developer, or a citizen scientist, there is a place for you in the network.

  • Build a Unit: Check out our hardware build guides to start your own observatory.
  • Contribute Code: Help us decouple our hardware layers and improve our TUI interfaces.
